The Static Var Generator (SVG) operates by connecting a voltage-type inverter to the power grid in parallel through a filter, allowing for the adjustment of the AC output voltage's amplitude and phase. It dynamically and accurately compensates for reactive power in the power grid system, with an instantaneous response time of less than 50 microseconds and a full response time of less than 10 milliseconds, effectively preventing overcompensation and undercompensation. Currently, SVG stands out as the optimal solution in the field of reactive power compensation.
The principle of the SVG is very similar to that of Active Power Filter, When the load is generating inductive or capacitive current, it makes load current lagging or leading the voltage. SVG detects the phase angle difference and generates leading or lagging current into the grid, making the phase angle of current almost the same as that of voltage on the transformer side, which means fundamental power factor is unit. SVG is also capable of correcting load imbalance.
